Cameras catch vehicles running red lights at busy Rhyl junction.

Denbighshire County Council and the GoSafe Camera Partnership, which operates safety cameras across Wales, are using technology at the Bodfor Street and Wellington Road junction to photograph vehicles passing traffic lights set to red. In the past three years there have been 14 road collisions, two of them serious, and subsequent investigations have found up to 604 vehicles a week have travelled through the signals whilst on red.

Cllr David Smith, cabinet lead member for environment, said,

“Running red lights or exceeding the speed limit through a traffic light junction is extremely dangerous and this initiative is designed to ensure that collisions are prevented by ensuring that drivers abide with legal and appropriate speeds.”

Redspeed’s red-light camera technology has been successfully at the Bodfor Street and Wellington Road junction in a bid to improve safety.
